My first website was an extension of my hobby – Boston’s history and architecture. I built it as a passionate background task. One day the State House asked if I could make a site like mine for them. This grew in to working as a lead for part of Mass.gov — that work won a 2002 MITX award. That led to running digital team at the Christian Science Monitor, Thomson Reuters, and beyond.
My passionate hobby never created revenue. It created a career opening that otherwise wouldn’t have been there. I had learned SEO, and analytics, and how to write on a deadline — and that expertise opened the door for work that published a million pages as work.
